Knowledge Based Assessment

Those of you not on the PTB mailing list might have missed out on this message regarding the exit exam Knowledge Based Assessment for post – August 2007 ST trainees. Here it is below.

The first diet of the Specialty Knowledge Based Assessment (KBA) in Nephrology will be held on the 18th  March  2009. Successful completion of this examination will be an essential requirement for successful completion of Specialist training in Nephrology for all Specialty Registrars (StRs) appointed from August 2007 and training under the “Guide to Postgraduate Specialty Training in the UK” or the “Gold Guide”. Renal Specialty Registrars (StRs) become eligible to sit the Specialty KBA after entering ST3, but it is recommended that StRs should have completed at least one year of Nephrology specialist training before attempting it.  The exact timing will be dependent upon whether a trainee is undertaking single accreditation or dual accreditation and the balance of nephrology and general medicine in the ST3 and ST4 years.

Specialist registrars appointed under the “Orange Guide” or “Guide to Specialist Registrar training” before August 2007 will be able to sit the examination if they wish after they have completed all parts of MRCP(UK) and should discuss this with their Training Programme Director. Overseas candidates who have completed all parts of MRCP(UK) will be eligible to sit the Specialty KBA .

Further information about this examination can be obtained from the following MRCP(UK) website at http://www.mrcpuk.org/KBA/Pages/Home.aspx
