Find below details of the Severn Institite Multi Professional Generic Skills Programme – essential pre-CCT stuff
Dear Colleagues
I would be grateful if you could publicise the Severn Institute Multi Professional Generic Skills Programme to your StRs and SpRs. The programme consists of 9 modules. As you would expect the earlier modules are aimed at junior trainees and the latter ones such as Leadership and Management are aimed at senior trainees coming to the end of their CCT. The course is funded centrally (£50 per trainee per module) and therefore the delivery of the modules is free at the point of delivery and held on a variety of dates commencing in October in Gloucester, Cheltenham and Bristol North Academies. Trainees who sign up for the modules and fail to attend will be penalized by having to pay £50 for their next module. Details of the programme are available on the Regional NHS Managed Learning Environment (MLE). We are also conducting a pilot with doctors.net where three of the modules as an adjunct are also available as an E – Learning package. The person coordinating registration is Mrs Barbara Burgess who can be contacted on Barbara.burgess@southwest.nhs.uk or by telephone 0117 9569105.
Module 1 Introduction to Learning and Teaching
Module 2 How understanding Personality Types can Improve Communication
Module 3 Career Management
Module 4 Patient Safety, Governance & Risk Management (also E Learning)
Module 5 Introduction to Medical Ethics & Law (also E Learning)
Module 6 Becoming a Teacher
Module 7 Leadership & Management
Module 8 Understanding the Health & Social Care Economy (also E Learning)
Module 9 Managing Change & Transitions
I am keen that the points of delivery are expanded throughout the Severn Footprint and not limited to Gloucestershire and Bristol North. These two Academies led by Liz Spencer, Simon Atkinson, Jane Hadfield and Stephen Greenwood and colleagues have produced an excellent programme with a CD rom and course material so that the modules can be delivered in other Academies. For this to happen, we need to develop local faculty and leadership within Academies. Materials are there but champion tutors are required to deliver this. It is my intention to engage with all of you to see how we can achieve this especially in the Southern and Eastern Footprint of the Severn Institute. A set of complete course materials comprising all the modules will be delivered to each Academy. The attachment above could be circulated to your other colleagues as well as Postgraduate Education Notice Boards.
This course is evolving and your help is needed for it to achieve its aims and become a first class programme. I wish to conclude by especially thanking Sally Hernando Head of Knowledge, Resources & E learning Strategies for her continuing support for this project.
Many thanks
Best wishes
Davinder
